(PRO) Short URL Generator for Referral URLs

Add a button to the referral URL tab, to allow affiliate users to generate a short URL for their referral link automatically.

To get started, simply enable the “Short URL Generator (Referral URL)” module in the plugin settings.

The “slug” for short URLs can also be customised in the plugin settings. By default this is set to “link”. So for example, short URLs will look like: example.com/link/a1b2c1

In the admin area, you can view all the short URLs that have been generated in the “Short URLs” menu page.

Which URLs can be shortened

A short URL can only be created for a link that points at your own website, so that affiliates can’t use the generator to shorten links to anywhere else.

Two domains are accepted: your WordPress domain, and the domain your referral links actually point at, if you have changed that with the “wcusage_default_ref_url” filter. This means the generator keeps working on sites that serve their shop from a separate front end. See Referral URLs for more on that setting and filter.

A “www.” prefix and letter case are both ignored when the domain is checked. Anything else is rejected, and the short link falls back to your site URL.

A short link is also only created once for the same URL, so generating it again returns the existing link rather than a new one.

Short URLs not working?

If your short URLs are not working, try going to the “Settings > Permalinks” page, and click “Save Changes” to refresh your permalinks.
