Subscriptions (Recurring Referrals)

Updated October 6, 2026

With the official "WooCommerce Subscriptions" plugin installed, affiliates earn commission on subscription renewals as well as the first order, at the commission rates you have set.

Renewals are credited to the affiliate whose coupon (or referral link) was used on the original subscription order, so the coupon doesn't need to be applied to the renewal itself. Lifetime commission referrals are carried over to renewals too.

Settings

You'll find these under "Subscription Renewal Settings" in the plugin settings:

  • Display orders and reward commission for WooCommerce subscription renewals (PRO): on by default. Switch it off and only the first (parent) order of each subscription earns commission. In the free version, renewals always earn commission.
  • Recurring Subscription Referral Limit (PRO): limits how many renewal orders earn commission after the first order. The first order doesn't count towards the limit, so a limit of 6 means the first order plus 6 renewals. Set it to 0 for unlimited renewals.

Renewals are paid at the same commission rate as the first order. There isn't a separate rate for renewals.

Basic support is also included for most other subscriptions plugins (recurring referrals enabled) but the custom settings are not available for these other plugins.

Subscription Renewal Icons

Some small icons will also be visible on the affiliate dashboard "recent orders" list for subscription orders, to show whether it's a new subscription or a renewal order.
